The signing of rookie contracts is underway, and the Detroit Lions have reportedly reached an agreement with third-round pick Larry Warford, according the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett. Once seen as a possible first-round choice, the guard from Kentucky slid out of the first two rounds, and the Lions were able to select him with the third choice in the third.
Rookie Larry Warford, Lions reach contract agreement, according to report
The third-round guard out of Kentucky should be able to compete for a starting job right away. Can Larry Warford help the Lions get back to the playoffs?

There was some speculation before the draft that the Lions could draft a tackle in the first round with the fifth-overall pick, but Detroit instead addressed its pass rush by taking defensive end Ezekiel Ansah. After taking cornerback Darius Slay in the second, it was then that the Lions decided to upgrade their offensive line and take Warford.
Warford, who weighed in at 332 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine, started 37 consecutive games at guard for the Wildcats. He will now look to improve a Lions offense that finished third in total yards, but most of which came as Detroit was looking to come back from large deficits. The Lions were just 18th in the NFL in yards per carry.
