Eagles announce $125 million revitalization for Lincoln Financial Field

New amenities inside the Linc will include updated video boards, Wi-Fi in the stands and more.

Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, will undergo a $125 million renovation. Over the course of the next two years, changes inside the Linc will include updated HD video boards, Wi-Fi, bridges connecting the upper concourses and an additional 1,600 seats to bring capacity up to about 70,000. According to president Don Smolenski, the improvements will "dramatically enhance the game day experience for our fans."

Sports Illustrated’s Peter King wrote Monday that the renovation plan may be the Eagles’ first step towards soliciting a Super Bowl bid. Galvanized by the selection of MetLife Stadium in New Jersey to host the 2014 Super Bowl, more owners of teams in cold weather cities may put their names in to host football’s biggest game going forward, according to King.

There’s no question the Meadowlands Super Bowl next winter has emboldened owners like Lurie, Dan Snyder, Pat Bowlen, Robert Kraft, Steve Bisciotti and Paul Allen -- and mayors like Rahm Emanuel of Chicago -- to think about hosting Super Bowls.

At the very least, the stadium improvements at the Linc should make fans feel a little better about getting off their couches and eating ticket costs to watch live football.
