Chad Johnson is going to jail for an illegal celebration

Be careful how you mark a successful plea deal.

Mike Ehrmann

Chad Johnson, formerly Ochocinco, just booked his ticket for 30 days in a Florida jail for violating his probation. He could have avoided a month in the pokey, if not for a poorly timed slap on his attorney’s derriere ... in the courtroom.

The Associated Press reported on Monday that Johnson’s plea deal fell through when Broward County Judge Kathleen McHugh saw the ass slap (or maybe she just heard a loud smack and saw a startled lawyer, we don’t know). The judge threw out the plea deal because she felt Johnson wasn’t taking it seriously. Go figure.

Johnson's current legal troubles stem from a domestic violence incident with his ex-wife Evelyn Lozada. He head-butted her last August while trying to catch on with the Miami Dolphins.

Imagine the consequences if he’d opted for a friendly goosing or a celebratory hip thrust rather than a “playful” slap?

At least Bengals fans get to see him in orange one more time.

It’s pretty appropriate that Chad Johnson is going to jail for an illegal celebration. Roger Goodell is probably now thinking of a way to get that same authority into the next collective bargaining agreement.

Here’s the offending ass slap in GIF form (via Will Brinson at CBS Sports):
