NFL roundup: Tim Tebow signs, Pacman Jones arrested and more
It was a busy day in the NFL on Monday, headlined by Tebowmania heading to New England.

New England took over sports headlines with reports it was planning to sign quarterback Tim Tebow, but that was far from the only NFL news of the day. Monday's headlines also included an arrest, a quarterback being released, a lawsuit and more.
Let’s catch up on Monday’s news beginning with what else?
How quickly things can change. Just over a week ago, people close to Tebow were reportedly privately admitting his NFL career was over. Now, Tebow is back in the league with some expecting him to battle Ryan Mallett for the No. 2 job in New England. Tebow will reportedly stick to quarterback in New England, although he’s expected to study tight end as well.
New England made headlines with its move on Monday, but Tebow is likely still a long way from making an impact or even making the roster in New England. As Greg Knopping of Pats Pulpit wrote, Tebow may have to show considerable improvement if he’s going to make the 53-man roster.
Tim Tebow is the third string quarterback. Last year, the Patriots kept two quarterbacks on the 53 man roster. Although we may have a better idea of how the team views Tebow from his contract details, it is safe to say that he is far from a guarantee to make the roster. He'll need to prove worthy of a roster spot. If he can do that, then we can begin to talk about a potential role for Tebow on the 46-man active gameday roster.
Cincinnati's Adam Jones was back in the news for the wrong reasons again on Monday as he was arrested following an incident at an area bar on June 5. Jones allegedly struck a woman after she allegedly hit him with a beer bottle. Security footage of the incident was released on Monday and Jones claimed he acted in self-defense.
Jones attempted to tell his side during a radio interview on Monday, but the interview ended abruptly with Anthony Cosenza of Cincy Jungle calling the interview, “almost as odd as this whole impending legal debacle.”
Chad Johnson was about to enter a plea deal that would have kept him out of jail, but the judge revoked the plea deal and sentenced Johnson to 30 days in jail after he butt slapped his attorney in the courtroom. The judge said she threw out the deal because she said Johnson wasn’t taking the situation seriously.
“I don’t know that you’re taking this whole thing seriously. I just saw you slap your attorney on the backside. Is there something funny about this?” Judge Kathleen McHugh said, via ESPN.com. “The whole courtroom was laughing. I’m not going to accept these plea negotiations. This isn’t a joke.”
The slap will cost Johnson 30 days in jail, via Will Brinson of CBS Sports.
Drew Brees was also involved in a legal matter on Monday, although his was very different from Johnson and Jones. Brees filed a lawsuit in federal court against former teammate Kevin Houser stemming from a $160,000 investment Houser advised Brees to make. Brees and several other members of the Saints organization invested in tax credits that turned out to be nonexistent.
Tarvaris Jackson's Bills career came to an end on Monday when Buffalo released the 30-year-old quarterback. The move ended Jackson's odd one-year career in Buffalo.
The Bills traded for Jackson last season, but he did not appear in a regular season game. The team re-signed him in February in a deal that included a $500,000 roster bonus, and he was slated to compete for the starting job. However, the Bills determined he was expendable -- despite the recent bonus -- on Monday. Jackson’s career in Buffalo was interesting, although uneventful, as Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings wrote:
Now-departed GM Buddy Nix promised Jackson a shot at the starting job when he re-signed in February, but that clearly wasn’t in the cards for the veteran signal caller. His run with the Bills ends having appeared in just one pre-season game.
