Broncos reach out to Ryan Clady about contract

The Broncos are reaching out to Ryan Clady to discuss a contract extension. It’s the first time in almost a year the two sides have talked about a contract.

USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos have reached out to franchise left tackle Ryan Clady on Tuesday, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. It's the first time in almost a year the two sides have discussed a new contract.

The Broncos put the franchise tag on Clady in the offseason, worth $9.828 million for one year. Clady has yet to sign the tender and will be skipping mandatory minicamps while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery. He insists that he will be ready for the first day of training camp.

Head coach John Fox doesn’t seem too worried about Clady skipping the minicamps. During a conference call with season ticket holders, he had this to say on the situation.

From the team website:

“He’s also rehabbing an offseason surgery so he technically or physically would not be able to participate in the practices anyway. So he’s taking care of business that way and he’s a guy that I know wants to be a Bronco and the Broncos want Ryan Clady and that’s something that will eventually get worked out.”

Clady is looking for a contract somewhere in between Joe Thomas' eight-year, $92 million deal and Jason Peters' six-year, $60.657 contract.
