Sedrick Ellis signs a 1-year deal with Chicago

After five seasons in New Orleans, Ellis is headed to Chicago.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears and free-agent defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

More on the Bears: Windy City Gridiron

The deal comes roughly a week after Ellis took a free-agent visit to The Windy City. The 27-year-old defensive tackle also visited Detroit and New England. Ellis spent the first five seasons of his career in New Orleans, starting 70 games. He isn't likely to start in Chicago, with Henry Melton and Stephen Paea currently penciled in as the starting defensive tackles, but Ellis could be a solid addition to the Bears' depth.

The No. 7 pick of the 2008 NFL Draft, Ellis entered the league with high expectations. He appeared to be on his way to reaching those expectations, including a career season in 2010 when he finished with 44 tackles and 6.0 sacks. After racking up 12.0 sacks during his first three seasons, Ellis’ production dropped off considerably as he totaled 0.5 sacks over the last two seasons.
