Chad Johnson has always been known for cracking wise, but this time it got him a 30-day jail sentence. His lawyer is hoping that he can get that reduced and clear up any bad feelings between Johnson and the judge.
Chad Johnson’s lawyer asks judge to reconsider sentence
After angering the judge during his hearing on Monday and receiving a 30-day jail term, Johnson’s lawyer is asking her to reconsider. Will Ochocinco be out in less than a month?

After a hearing on Monday in regards to a probation violation stemming from a battery charge against his ex-wife last year, Johnson gave his lawyer a pat on the back the prompted laughter in the courtroom. That upset Broward County Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh, and she gave Johnson 30 days in jail after he had already reached a deal with prosecutors on community service and counseling.
Johnson’s lawyer, Adam Swickle, tried to clear up any confusion.
“Mr. Johnson has been a professional football player in the National Football League for 11 years and patting another individual on the backside is viewed as a sign of respect and gratitude,” he said in the motion. “It is clear that the court misinterpreted Mr. Johnson’s interaction with his attorney.”
As for the courtroom laughter, Swickle added, “this is not Mr. Johnson’s fault and he should not be punished for the actions of third parties.”
The Miami Dolphins released Johnson last year, on HBO's Hard Knocks no less, after the domestic abuse charge came up in the preseason against his ex. He has not been seen in the NFL since and has said that he hopes to still make a return to the league.
But he’s going to have to get out of jail first. Swickle hopes that’s in less than 30 days.
