Raiders K Sebastian Janikowski would like to play 7 or 8 more years

Janikowski is feeling good this offseason and wants to keep booming kicks in Oakland for a long time.

USA TODAY Sports

Over his 13 seasons with the Oakland Raiders, placekicker Sebastian Janikowski has been one of the team's constant icons. As the 35-year-old enters a contract year, Janikowski doesn't want that to change for a long, long while, according to a report from Vic Tafur of SFGate.com on Wednesday.

Janikowski, reportedly down about ten pounds this offseason, said in Tafur’s article that he wants to hang around as long as Oakland will have him:

“I would love to stay here and finish my career. This is where I started and where I would like to finish. ... I can go seven or eight years. If I stay healthy, I can keep going. I want to play as long as I can and win the Super Bowl. That’s the ultimate goal.”

Spending his entire career thus far working with punter Shane Lechler (currently with the Houston Texans) as his holder on field goals, Janikowski will need to adjust to life with someone else -- likely, as Tafur notes, Raiders punters Chris Kluwe and Marquette King. While sad to see Lechler go, Janikowski didn't sound too concerned in the report about the transition.

SeaBass was fifth in the NFL in field goals made in 2012, drilling 31 of his 34 attempts while racking up 118 total points (tied for 12th-most in the league). He made six of 50-or-more yards, including a season-long 57-yarder in a 15-0 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in December.
