Buccaneers sign WR Derek Hagan

The Bucs added a new receiver to their corps on Thursday. What are Hagan’s chances of getting serious playing time with Tampa?

Rick Stewart

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' active offseason continues with the signing of free agent receiver Derek Hagan on Thursday, GM Mark Dominik announced.

Hagan joins a deep group of wide receivers -- it seems the Bucs are taking a small risk in the hopes of unearthing a diamond in the rough, or at least some extra depth after last season’s collapse. What are his chances of making the team?

Hagan is entering his eighth NFL season, having previously played for the Dolphins, Giants, Bills, and, mostly recently, the Raiders. A third-round pick out of Arizona State in 2006, Hagan's career-highs in receiving yards and catches came with the Dolphins in 2007, when he finished with 373 yards on 29 receptions.

He has not topped 300 yards since, and has just 10 career starts.

Hagan will be competing against a large group of receivers still looking to prove themselves. The Bucs previously signed veteran receiver Kevin Ogletree in March -- he'll likely join Hagan in battling the likes of Tiquan Underwood and Chris Owusu for playing time behind starters Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams.

Hagan was a three-time All-American for the Sun Devils.
