Brett Favre: Aaron Rodgers will ‘shatter’ my records

The mending of the Favre-Packers relationship continues with more nice words.

Brett Favre is back singing the praises of the guy who took over for him as quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers, this time saying Rodgers will probably be writing his name over the Ol' Gunslinger's in the team's record books by the time his career is over, according to a report from Kevin Patra of NFL.com on Friday.

Here’s what Favre had to say in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio Thursday (via the report):

“Aaron has played extremely well, probably even better than anyone anticipated, but I knew he was capable of that and that’s why they drafted him. Barring any injury he’ll shatter everything I ever did there except for maybe consecutive games. But the guy has been tremendous, great move on their part.”

It's the latest step in the warm-and-fuzzy relationship rebuild being fostered between Favre and the team. The oft-speculated return to Lambeau Field for the retiring of Favre's No. 4 appears likely to happen in only a matter of time now, a good signifier of enough time passing between now and the messy divorce -- especially his signing with the arch-rival Minnesota Vikings -- that angered and split the Packer fan base.

Favre still holds the record for most career touchdown passes in Green Bay history (442), along with marks like completions in a season (372) and career (5,377) and total passing yards (61,655). He’s right though: Rodgers is coming. He already holds Packer records for most passing yards in a season (4,643), touchdown passes in a season (45) and single-season quarterback rating (122.5 in 2011).

Now the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL, Rodgers will be in Green Bay for the foreseeable future. Certainly long enough, the way things are turning in a good direction now, to welcome Favre back to Lambeau. That, finally, seems like more of a formality than whether or not Rodgers can catch Favre in the record books.
