Richard Seymour, Falcons can’t agree on contract terms, yet

Richard Seymour thanks the Falcons “for their efforts,” but he may have to move on after contract negotiations stalled between the two sides.

Richard Seymour and the Atlanta Falcons have hit an impasse in contract negotiations, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Seymour spoke to La Canfora, and told him "I thank them for their efforts," but that the two sides couldn't agree on terms. According to La Canfora, however, negotiations aren't dead yet.

Seymour has surprised many by remaining on the free agent market. He's a well-seasoned veteran by NFL standards at 33 years old, and is coming off hamstring and knee injuries that landed him on injured reserve, but he also made the Pro Bowl in 2010 and 2011, his last two full seasons with the Oakland Raiders. Seymour will still be expected to start and make a big impact wherever he lands.

Atlanta makes sense as a destination for all of the reasons La Canfora listed above. Seymour could provide the Falcons with a solid interior pass rush, and should improve a run defense that gave up 4.8 yards per carry last season.
