Ryan Broyles is biggest surprise at Lions minicamp

Despite two ACL injuries in 13 months, Broyles could be ready for a breakout season in 2013.

Don't sleep on Ryan Broyles.

Despite tearing his ACL back in December, his second major ACL injury in a span of 13 months, the second-year Lions receiver looks ready to make a serious impact in Detroit this season.

In a recent Twitter Q&A, DetroitLions.com lead writer Tim Twentyman tabbed Broyles as the biggest surprise in Lions camp thus far and predicted a breakout season for the wide receiver.

Broyles began emerging last season before his injury. He caught 22 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns prior to undergoing surgery in December. With Titus Young's departure, Broyles could be in line for more targets. He will be competing with Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew and Reggie Bush for those targets, but Broyles has the ability get open underneath and provide a different element than the Lions have had in recent years.

According to Twentyman, Broyles has been a full go at minicamp. While he’s not yet 100-percent, he should be ready for Week 1. His work ethic has always been top notch, and he quietly goes about his business. He may not get a ton of attention, but Broyles could surprise some people this season.
