NFL news roundup: Heath Miller may not be ready for the season

Here are some things that happened in the NFL on Sunday while you were busy watching baseball with your dad.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers' tight end Heath Miller is recovering from major knee surgery and he may not be ready in time for the regular season. Miller tore his ACL, MCL and PCL in late December and underwent reconstructive surgery in January. Look for Matt Spaeth to get the majority of reps and possibly the starting job if Miller isn't ready to go in September. He will almost certainly start training camp on the PUP list.

Here are some other NFL headlines from Sunday.

Alex Green emerges as Packers’ starting RB

The Packers invested heavily in running backs in the draft, taking Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin to help boost a sluggish unit, but Alex Green took all the first-team reps at minicamp and is still on top of the depth chart. Green struggled in 2012, getting just 464 rushing yards with no touchdowns. He's now two years removed from a torn ACL and the team wants to give him another chance to earn the starting job. This training camp battle will be interesting to watch.

Ryan Broyles is the biggest surprise at Lions minicamp

Just six months removed from his own torn ACL, Ryan Broyles was a full participant in minicamp and appears ready to have a breakout season. He had 22 catches for 310 yards last season before the injury and was emerging as a quality No. 2 receiver opposite Calvin Johnson. If he avoids any setbacks on the knee, he has an excellent chance to win the starting job this year.
