Donald Driver would return to Packers if asked

Donald Driver would consider coming out of retirement to play in the NFL, but only if the Packers come calling.

USA TODAY Sports

Donald Driver said that he would willing to return to the NFL, but only for the Green Bay Packers, according to FOX Sports Wisconsin. Driver spoke at a press conference before his charity softball game and said that he has received phone calls about playing for other teams in the NFL, but while he also loves the game, "I only love one team."

“I talked to so many different guys and every guy that I’ve talked to said they wish they never went to another team,” Driver said. “They always wished they would’ve retired with that team that they played 10, 11, 12 years for.

“When I asked them, ‘Should I go back?,’ they say, ‘If you don’t have that love for another team, don’t go back. You’re not going to get the same love, you’re not going to get the same respect that you got from them that you got from Green Bay.’”

Driver is four months into retirement and is apparently enjoying his time off. Packers training camp will not feature Driver on the practice field for the first time since 1999. Driver said that he does not miss training, but “I think once September hits and I know it’s kicked off, I think that’s when it will really hit me that I’m not playing football anymore.” However, he does not have that itch to return just yet.

Driver finished his 14-year career with 743 receptions for 10,137 yards and 61 touchdown receptions. He had six-straight seasons with over 1,000 yards receiving from 2004-2009, but his production fell precipitously afterwards. Last year, Driver had just eight receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
