Scott Pioli added as NFL analyst for NBC Sports

Former Kansas City Chiefs’ general manager Scott Pioli will be the latest former NFL exec to transition to broadcast.

US PRESSWIRE

NBC Sports has added former Kansas City Chiefs' general manager Scott Pioli to its Football Night In America broadcast team, per Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch. Pioli was the general manager for the Kansas City Chiefs for the last four years before being fired after the 2012 season.

Pioli told Deitsch that his role would be as an “informationalist,” which he described as someone who is “able to talk about experiences, tie them into what is happening currently, and attempt to educate fans and viewers about how things really work behind the scenes.” Pioli could appear on NBC Sports in a number of different ways, including as an analyst in-studio and on-site at football games.

Pioli is highly regarded for his work as assistant director, director and vice president of player personnel for the New England Patriots from 2000-2008. Unfortunately, his time in Kansas City was not as successful. He was let go after the Chiefs went 23-41 over his four years with the organization. A 2-14 record in 2012 led to wholesale changes for the Chiefs.

Former NFL executives have been making more frequent television appearances in recent years. Former Indianapolis Colts' GM Bill Polian is a regular on ESPN, and former Washington Redskins' and Houston Texans' GM Charley Casserly is currently on the NFL Network. Former Cleveland Browns' GM Phil Savage and St. Louis Rams' GM Billy Devaney will be part of ESPN's "NFL Insiders" show to debut later this summer.
