Arthur Brown injury: Ravens LB still limited in practice

Ravens rookie linebacker Arthur Brown is expected to compete for a starting job at inside linebacker, but he’ll need to get healthy first.

Arthur Brown is still limited in practice as he recovers from sports hernia surgery, but he is on track to open Baltimore Ravens training camp as a full participant, according to the team's official site. Brown was able to participate in full-team drills during minicamp this past week, but he is only able to get through half of a practice at this point. He underwent surgery after rookie minicamp, and is in the midst of a 4-6 week recovery process.

Brown is expected to compete for a starting spot at inside linebacker next to Jameel McClain. Josh Bynes and veteran Daryl Smith are also expected to provide competition, though Brown, a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, is arguably the favorite to win the job.

Brown is coming off a stellar career at Kansas State. He was named a first-team All-American in 2012 after notching over 100 tackles for a second straight season. Brown was considered a bit undersized after measuring in at 6’0, 241 pounds at the NFL Combine, but his athleticism is expected to make up for that shortcoming. He has the versatility to play outside linebacker as well.
