Atlanta radio station suspends hosts for making fun of Steve Gleason

A sports-talk morning show stepped over the line Monday, and the radio station has suspended those involved in the incident.

After sports-talk morning show Mayhem in the A.M., which airs on Atlanta radio station 790 The Zone, made fun of former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason, who has ALS, the station has suspended the show indefinitely.

A statement on the incident is posted on the station’s official Facebook page:

"We deeply regret the comments made by Mayhem In The AM this morning on 790 The Zone regarding former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason. 790 The Zone, Lincoln Financial Media, our sponsors and partners in no way endorse or support the unfortunate and offensive commentary concerning Mr. Gleason this morning. The members of the show involved with this incident have been suspended indefinitely pending further management review of their actions."

News of the morning show’s bit was first posted on Tiger Droppings, a Saints- and LSU-centric message board, and it quickly made waves on Twitter. After such strong negative reactions, Mayhem in the A.M.‘s Nick Cellini apologized.

Recorded audio of the bit has yet to surface.
