Vikings open to the idea of more London games

The Vikings could be spending more time overseas, but first they’ll see what happens with their September bout against the Steelers.

Adam Bettcher

The Minnesota Vikings are open to playing more games in London, according to Neil Reynolds of the NFL UK. Reynolds spent time with the Vikings, and talked with Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of public affairs and stadium development, who did not rule out the possibility of the team playing more games overseas as they wait for their new stadium to be completed in 2016.

Bagley added that the team would see how this season's Sept. 29 bout against the Pittsburgh Steelers went at Wembley Stadium before making any decision on a return to London. The Vikings have never played in London before. This season, they are taking part in one of two NFL games at Wembley. The second will be played on Oct. 27 between the San Francisco 49ers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The NFL is making a strong push to increase the league’s presence in England. Earlier this month, commissioner Roger Goodell suggested that the Jaguars could play multiple games in London, though the Jags denied that any plans are in the works.

Goodell seems determined to eventually put an NFL franchise in London. SB Nation forecasted what such a future would look like with the Jags overseas and it was, uh, interesting.
