Chiefs rumors: Desmond Bishop will visit Kansas City

Desmond Bishop, recently released by the Packers, will visit with the Vikings and Chiefs this week.

Leon Halip

Free agent linebacker Desmond Bishop is scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. He is also set to visit the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.

Bishop was released by the Green Bay Packers on Monday. He missed the entire 2012 season with a torn hamstring and was set to make $3.4 million this season. The Packers decided to move on when he wouldn't accept a pay cut.

Bishop’s hamstring injury isn’t 100 percent healed yet, but he’s still 28 years old and a quality defender when healthy. In 2011, he recorded 115 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles.

If the Chiefs sign Bishop, he could earn the starting job over Akeem Jordan next to Derrick Johnson. He was limited in workouts while with the Packers, but he should be ready to go for training camp with whatever team signs him.
