Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly will not need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation treatments in his ongoing fight with cancer, according to an update from television sports anchor John Kucko, based out of Rochester, N.Y., on Wednesday (via Buffalo Rumblings).

After announcing he had cancer earlier this month, Kelly is reportedly making good progress.

Kucko says, per a source close to Kelly, that the Bills great is “doing well.” Kelly announced he had been diagnosed with cancer at his golf tournament earlier in June, and, as you’d expect, received an outpouring of support from the Buffalo community as well as former and current Bills players.

Kelly had surgery soon after on his upper jaw. The procedure, which he had at the Erie County Medical Center, went well. The facility released a statement (via Buffalo Rumblings) after it was over:
“At Mr. Kelly’s request, we thank everyone for their concern and well wishes for him and his family. Today, Mr. Kelly underwent a partial maxillectomy to remove a squamous cell carcinoma of the upper gingival caused be chronic irritation at the gum site. He underwent reconstruction with a dental obturator. The surgery went very well. We are hopeful for and anticipate a speedy recovery and successful outcome. Mr. Kelly is recovering comfortably at this time. He is in the capable care of the great nurses and staff here at ECMC. He will remain here at the hospital until he feels comfortable to go home.”
Following Kelly’s surgery, a Buffalo-based DJ shared a photo (again, via Buffalo Rumblings) of Kelly looking well and posing with a “Get Well Soon” sign.
