Seahawks extended GM John Schneider through 2016

The Seahawks quietly extended GM John Schneider’s contract through the 2016 season.

USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks quietly signed general manager John Schneider to a three-year extension last offseason, according to ESPN's Mike Sando. The new deal will keep him in Seattle through the 2016 season.

Schneider was hired in 2010 along with head coach Pete Carroll and his original contract was set to expire at the end of the 2013 season. Sando writes that the extension has been in place for over a year, however, without any fanfare. The ESPN expert also believes that Carroll, whose contract is up after the 2014 season, will be in line for an extension over the next year or so as well.

Since taking over a team that went 5-11 in 2009, Schneider and Carroll have built one of the best rosters in the league. The Seahawks are popular favorites to win the Super Bowl this season, too, so keeping Schneider around for four more years seems to be an easy choice after the fine work he has done for the franchise.
