Redskins have no interest in Eric Winston

The Redskins have not shown any interest in signing Eric Winston, and the right tackle remains on the market despite being one of the top free agents available.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

Don't expect free agent right tackle Eric Winston to join the Washington Redskins any time soon. On the surface, the two appear to be a good fit. Winston has experience with zone blocking coming from the Kansas City Chiefs and, before that, the Houston Texans. But despite being one of the top free agents still on the market, the Redskins have yet to show any interest this offseason, according to Rich Tandler of Real Redskins:

Winston is a good player and a zone fit. But he has been a free agent twice in the past two offseasons and the Redskins haven’t shown any interest as far as anyone knows. The cap is tight but they could create some room if they really wanted to sign him. We’ll see if his price drops to the point where the Redskins could consider him but I just don’t see it.

That Winston has remained on the free agent block this long is somewhat surprising. Granted, the Chiefs’ offense was a mess last season in part because the offensive lineman performed poorly as a unit. Winston was considered one of the few relatively bright spots, however. He graded out as the 26th best offensive tackle in the league last season by Pro Football Focus.

Still, Winston was released by the Chiefs, who added Eric Fisher with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft to take his place along the line. Winston has made visits to several teams around the league, and seemed to be preparing to join the Miami Dolphins at one point before the team added Tyson Clabo to handle right tackle.
