Giants considering last minute run at Vonta Leach

The Giants are making a last-ditch run at Vonta Leach due to concerns that Henry Hynoski won’t be ready for the start of the 2013 season.

The New York Giants are making a desperation play at former Baltimore Ravens fullback Vonta Leach. According to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, the Giants are concerned that Henry Hynoski will not be ready for the start of the 2013 season, and are prepared to offer Leach more than the one-year deal for the veteran's minimum that they proposed earlier this month.

The Giants will hope to pry Leach away from the Miami Dolphins. Last Thursday, head coach Joe Philbin said he wanted to get a deal done with the fullback by the end of this week. The Dolphins are hoping to improve their running game in short yardage situations, and only have one fullback, Jorvorskie Lane, currently on the roster.

With Hynoski out, the Giants technically have zero fullbacks. Bear Pascoe has been filling in since Hynoski suffered an MCL injury and a chip fracture in his knee on May 22, but the Giants would like to keep Pascoe at tight end full time if possible.

Hynoski has maintained that he will be ready for the start of the season opener, though the Giants’ added pressure on Leach casts some doubt on Hynoski’s availability. The SB Nation blog Big Blue View suggest that Hynoski’s chip fracture of the lateral plateau may be a sign of a torn ACL.
