Richard Seymour rumors: Falcons likely, Patriots out for defensive end

The free agent doesn’t have anything new to say about talks with the Falcons, but he definitely ruled out a reunion with the Patriots.

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Free-agent defensive lineman Richard Seymour went on SiriusXM Sports Tuesday to talk about his ongoing negotiations with the Atlanta Falcons. While he doesn't have anything new to report on that front, he did rule out a possible reunion with the New England Patriots.

When asked about the possibility of rejoining the team where he won three Super Bowl rings, Seymour had this to say:

I always felt like that chapter was closed when I left there, I always been grateful for the time I spent there, we had a great time together, I thought it worked well for both sides, but I kinda moved on from there. I think their team is well and they moved on as well, so I think that won’t be anything we’ll see in the future.

The 33-year-old reiterated that he wants to play for a contending team in the later stages of his career:

I think when you put it all together, one reason that you play this game is always contend and be the best. That’s what you look for as a player, you always want to be at the top. I don’t play just to be on the team. You always want to be able to contend.

Seymour spent the past four seasons with the Oakland Raiders after being traded from the Patriots. He had 15 tackles and three sacks last season while missing eight games with an injury.

Seymour has been in talks with the Falcons for several weeks, but the two sides are not any closer to a deal.
