Philadelphia Eagles stay at home for training camp

Under Chip Kelly, the Eagles will be staying within city limits this time around.

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to stay in their own city for training camp instead of traveling out of town for the first time in 17 years, according to Philly.com.

For every year under Andy Reid and a few seasons before him, the Eagles had always packed their bags for training camp and set sail for Bethlehem, PA and the beauty of Lehigh University. This year, first-time head coach Chip Kelly has decided to keep the practices on city turf in the NovaCare Complex and Lincoln Financial Field.

While some players aren't sure about how the transition is going to affect them, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin doesn't mind being able to head home after work instead of to a dorm, per the piece:

“I think it’s a comfort thing,” said Maclin. “There’s going to be an option for guys to stay in a hotel if they want to. But guys want to see their family. After a hard day’s work, they want to go home to their family, see their kids and sleep in their own bed.”

The Eagles are coming off a 4-12, last place finish in the NFC East and are looking to reboot under Kelly. Kelly comes in from the University of Oregon, where he won the Fiesta Bowl in January 2013.
