Dallas Cowboys sign 1st-round pick Travis Frederick

Under the current CBA, teams like Dallas are less prone to have unsigned draft picks headed into training camp. They now have their full draft class under contract.

USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys didn't have to wait until July to sign their first-round pick this year. Dallas came to terms on Tuesday with the 31st overall pick, center Travis Frederick out of Wisconsin. Frederick tweeted a picture of himself signing the deal, saying "Feels good to be a Cowboy. (officially)."

Frederick marks the last of the Cowboys rookie class to sign, with the rookie wage scale in the new CBA making it less complicated for teams to come to terms with their newest young players. Dallas originally was selecting 18th but traded down with the San Francisco 49ers to take Frederick.

Projected by many to be a second or third-round pick, Frederick ended up going at the end of the first with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stating that the team needed to give quarterback Tony Romo more time.

An All-American at Wisconsin, Frederick became the first true freshman in school history to start on the offensive line. He also spent time at guard while at Wisconsin, but now he’s expected to be the Cowboys starting center from day one.
