Dolphins rumors: Vonta Leach discussions continue on Wednesday

The veteran Pro Bowl fullback remains a free agent, and is having discussions with the Dolphins again on Wednesday. Could he sign with a team soon?

USA TODAY Sports

Fullback Vonta Leach remains a hot topic of interest on the free agent market, with rumors of his next home swirling on almost a daily basis. The latest news on Wednesday is that the 2013 Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion is having discussions with the Miami Dolphins, despite the fact that general manager Jeff Ireland and head coach Joe Philbin are traveling out of the country.

The Dolphins aren't a new suitor for Leach, having contacted him almost immediately after he was released by the Baltimore Ravens just two weeks ago. The Dolphins, Texans, Giants, and even the Ravens have all been rumored to be very interested in his services.

Leach and the Giants have not setup a visit yet, and he’s expected to be busy with a fundraiser over the next few days that would make him unavailable for any possible visits until next week. Whether or not he talks to other teams or signs with the Dolphins is unknown yet, but Miami could be making the hardest push.

An undrafted free agent out of East Carolina in 2004, Leach has spent time with the Packers, Saints, Texans, and Ravens. He signed a three-year deal in 2011 with Baltimore after having just made his first career Pro Bowl. He's been to the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons as well, but the Ravens had to release him for salary cap purposes.
