Ausar Walcott was charged with attempted murder and two other serious charges on Wednesday. Soon after the Patriots released Aaron Hernandez, the Browns made the same move for a lesser-known player.

Walcott was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault and third-degree endangering an injured victim following the beating of 24-year-old Derrick Jones outside of a club on June 23.
The rookie linebacker played in 45 games at the University of Virginia, including 22 starts, but was suspended two years ago for getting arrested with two teammates. Those charges were dropped.
While every undrafted free agent in the NFL has a long uphill battle in the offseason, Walcott faces a more serious situation now -- especially since bail was set for $500,000.
The sports world was watching the high-profile investigation of Aaron Hernandez and a possible murder case all week so it has to be discouraging that another NFL player was officially charged with attempted murder and released by his team on Wednesday.
