Falcons rumors: Richard Seymour contract talks stalled

Contract talks between Richard Seymour and the Falcons have stalled, despite a deal that seemed imminent just last week.

Talks have stalled between Richard Seymour and the Atlanta Falcons, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. The two parties have been rumored to be close to reaching a deal the last couple weeks, and a deal was anticipated June 1 with Tyson Clabo's contract coming off the books to free up $5.5 million in salary cap space. Seymour remains a free agent, however.

NFL.com reports that the biggest holdup is likely money. Seymour is a 12-year veteran coming off an injury-plagued 2012 season, but he has also consistently been one of the best defensive tackles in the league and may feel he should be paid as such. The Falcons want additional pass-rushing help, but how much they value Seymour may not gibe with the money he wants.

The pairing appears to be a good one, otherwise. Seymour would provide some much-needed help along the defensive front, and would be closer to his adopted son, DeVondre, who has committed to play offensive tackle at Georgia beginning next season.

A deal may still get done in due time. Seymour has said in the past that he is willing to retire, however, putting the onus on Atlanta to make a decision.
