Johnathan Joseph injury: Texans CB ‘feeling better than I’ve ever felt’

After an injury-plagued 2012, Johnathan Joseph is back to full strength thanks in large part to offseason surgery.

Houston Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph battled a groin injury last season, but it apparently it wasn't his only ailment. Joseph said he's feeling much better after having his groin issues and two sports hernias "fixed," according to a report from James Palmer of CSN Houston.

“With the groin issues and everything behind me and the sports hernia on both sides, I had both those fixed,” Joseph said, via CSN Houston. “Now I have more pop, more explosion with my legs. I can run all day again.”

Despite making the Pro Bowl for a second straight season, Joseph’s play was not up to the level he set during his All-Pro season in 2011. Pro Football Focus gave Joseph a plus-4.7 grade in 2012, down from the plus-13.7 grade he accumulated in 2011. Playing through a groin injury and two sports hernias likely played a major role in Joseph’s struggles, but he said he feels healthy now.

“I’m just glad to have it behind me,” he said. “I’m feeling better than I’ve ever felt. I told somebody that yesterday. I was just excited that I got it fixed just to see where I am at on the field. And I’m having probably the best OTAs I’ve had in four or five years.”

The Texans had one of the best defenses in the NFL early in the season, but their play dropped off considerably over the second half. With Joseph now 100 percent healthy and Brian Cushing returning from a torn ACL, the Texans could once again be one of the top defensive teams in the league.
