NFL news roundup: Broncos not close to Clady deal, Raiders optimistic about Hayden

The Broncos are still not close to signing an extension with Ryan Clady, while the Raiders are cautiously optimistic that D.J. Hayden will be ready for camp.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos are still talking to offensive tackle Ryan Clady, but the two sides still aren't close to a deal. They put the franchise tag on Clady in the offseason, but he has yet to sign his tender and didn't attend spring workouts. Clady is seeking a deal close to the seven-year, $80.5 million extension Joe Thomas got last year.

Here are some other headlines around the NFL on Sunday.

D.J. Hayden injury: Raiders ‘relatively optimistic’ for training camp return

The Raiders shut down rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden in the spring due to an abdominal injury, but they are "relatively optimistic" he will be ready in time for training camp. Hayden was hospitalized with the injury as a precaution. It's unknown if the injury is related to the near-fatal heart cavity tear he suffered last year.

The Raiders drafted Hayden with the 12th overall pick. He’s expected to start as a rookie if healthy.

Lardarius Webb injury: Ravens CB expected back by training camp

The Baltimore Ravens expect cornerback Lardarius Webb to be ready for training camp. Webb tore his ACL in Week 6 of last year, but his recovery has been going as scheduled. His return will be a big boost for a defense in transition. The Ravens lost Ray Lewis to retirement and Ed Reed to free agency.

Steelers rumors: Jarvis Jones could start at outside linebacker

The Pittsburgh Steelers don't normally hand starting jobs to rookies, but Jarvis Jones could buck that trend. Jones is making a big push to win the starting job at outside linebacker. He is competing with Jason Worilds for the right to replace James Harrison.

Only one Steelers player, center Maurkice Pouncey, has started as a rookie in the last eight years.

Bryce Brown denies dogfighting

Philadelphia Eagles running back Bryce Brown took to Twitter to deny his involvement in an alleged dogfighting operation. Brown's dog and seven puppies were seized by authorities at a dog kennel in Wisconsin, but the dog has been returned to his care. Brown claims he was a victim of the situation. The kennel owner was arrested and charged with animal mistreatment.

The initial report raised alarm bells, due to teammate Michael Vick's dark past, but this may ultimately end up being a non-story.

Jeremy Maclin wants to remain with Eagles beyond 2013 season

Jeremy Maclin's future with the Eagles is in doubt, as the wide receiver is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He's been productive over five seasons, but hasn't quite reached the potential the Eagles envisioned when they drafted him in the first round. He has yet to reach 1,000 yards in a season. Yet he still wants to play for the Eagles. From Philadelphia Magazine:

“This is the team and organization that drafted me. I don’t want to leave,” Maclin said. “But at the end of the day, that’s going to get brought up and come up when it’s time for it. All I can do is go out there and play ball, and I’m going to play to the best of my ability.”
