Gabe Carimi expected at Bears minicamp

The former first-round pick will reportedly be present soon for Chicago.

Chicago Bears offensive lineman Gabe Carimi didn't show up for OTAs, but will be attending minicamp, according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Carimi was a Bears' first-round pick two years ago, but so far hasn't established himself as anything special. As part of an offensive line that has continued to struggle protecting quarterback Jay Cutler, Carimi has put his roster spot in jeopardy going into his 2013 training camp.

Interestingly enough, Carimi was the only Chicago player who was eligible not to attend the voluntary OTAs, making some people wonder if he made a big mistake.

Carimi has been working out on his own, and at times with former Pro Bowl center LeCharles Bentley, to improve his game. If the former Wisconsin Badgers standout loses his spot on the Bears, it would one of the faster flame-outs for a first-round pick in recent years.

After being put at tackles for the first two seasons of his career, Carimi is being asked to compete at guard as well. Keep in mind, the Bears spent their first-round pick this year on Kyle Long, a guard out of Oregon. If Carimi turns himself into a productive starter, he'll have earned it.
