Buccaneers DE Da’Quan Bowers has high hopes for 2013 season

Tampa Bay is hoping for big things out of its second-round pick from two years ago.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expecting defensive end Da'Quan Bowers to put forth a breakout year, according to The Tampa Tribune.

Bowers, originally Tampa Bay’s second-round pick from Clemson in 2011, hasn’t done all that much in his first two seasons. Combined, Bowers has 4.5 sacks with three coming last year. However, head coach Greg Schiano believes there is a ton of potential within Bowers. Per the article:

“Is he going to be an every down player? I’m sure banking on it,” Schiano said. “But you’ve got to do it. The plan is there, but he has to go out and do it.”

For his part, Bowers isn’t running away from the idea he could be great. Per the Tribune:

“I’m looking to be dominant,” Bowers said.“I take responsibility for that. Anything less than double-digit sacks is a failure for the season.”

In college, Bowers was one of the most dominant players on the field and thought of as a top pick before a serious knee injury that required surgery. Teams were scared off, leaving Tampa the opportunity to take him in the early-mid second round.

With Michael Bennett having departed the Buccaneers for their 1976 expansion counterparts, the Seattle Seahawks, it stands to reason Bowers will get plenty of chances to prove his head coach correct.
