Jason Pierre-Paul has not missed a game during his three seasons in the NFL, but the star defensive end is expected to miss approximately 12 weeks following back surgery. Pierre-Paul had been working through rehabilitation in the offseason in an effort to repair back issues that apparently have been bothering him dating back to last season, but last week it was finally determined that surgery would be the best route to take.

One of the top pass-rushers in the league, Jason Pierre-Paul might be in danger of missing the season opener. What timetable did doctors give to the fourth-year defensive end?

Said Pierre-Paul:
“The treatment I’ve been doing has helped manage the issue, but this procedure is going to get me fully healthy and there should be no more pain. I’m going to do everything the doctors tell me to do during my rehab so I can be back playing the game I love at a high level as quickly as possible.”
Pierre-Paul was selected to his second straight Pro Bowl in 2012 after recording 66 tackles, 6.5 sacks and an interception against the Dallas Cowboys that was returned for a touchdown. However, his recovery time of 12 weeks could put him right on the edge of missing the Giants' season opener against Dallas on Sept. 8.
If all goes well, he could keep his games-played streak alive, but with back injuries, it’s typically a wait-and-see situation. At this point, that’s all Pierre-Paul and Giants fans can do.
