Trent Richardson injury: Browns RB will return by training camp

There have been conflicting reports as to the extent of Richardson’s injuries and how long the team plans to keep him out. Are the Browns being too cautious with their star player?

Eric P. Mull-US PRESSWIRE

Cleveland Browns training camp officially kicks off on July 29, but will second-year running back Trent Richardson be there? It might depend on who you ask. On Tuesday, it was reported that Richardson would sit out the team's minicamp this week as he recovers from a lower right leg injury. ESPN's Will Burge added that the team would hold Richardson out until August as a precautionary measure, since it was concerned that his injury could develop into a more serious stress fracture.

On Wednesday, Nate Ulrich of he Akron Beacon Journal reported that Richardson has said that he will be ready to return by the start of training camp. The would conflict slightly with the report that he would be out until August, but only by a few days if true. However, Burge also added that Richardson has been dealing with migraines and weight loss issues, as well.

Richardson has dealt with a number of injury issues during his short time in the NFL, but he only missed one game during his rookie season. He rushed for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2012, averaging 3.6 yards per carry.

As one of the lone stars on Cleveland, the team has been cautious with the third-overall pick in 2012 to ensure that he has a long and fruitful career, rather than a short and plagued one. Whether or not he is back before August is unclear, but it certainly looks like that’s what the running back is shooting for.
