Josh Gordon has been suspended two games by the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reports. Gordon will also be docked pay for four games. There is no word yet on what the substance was.

Coming off a breakout season, Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended two games. The second-year wideout ran into trouble in college for marijuana use.

Gordon broke out as a rookie wide receiver last season with the Cleveland Browns. He had 50 receptions for 805 yards and five touchdowns, with 30 of those receptions coming in the final seven games of the regular season. New head coach Rob Chudzinski released a statement. Via Grossi:
“Obviously we are all disappointed in this news,” Chudzinski said. “In our short time with Josh, he has done everything that we’ve asked him to do and he has exhibited substantial improvement. We believe that he will continue to work diligently through training camp and the preseason. I am confident that others will step up in his absence.”
Gordon has had run-ins with the law in the past, which may explain why he had to resort to entering the league through the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft. At Baylor, he was arrested as a sophomore after being found asleep in his car at a Taco Bell with marijuana. Gordon was later suspended from the program indefinitely after testing positive for marijuana on a drug test.
Grossi notes that Gordon’s suspension could have been more harsh, but the NFL cannot take into account failed tests that occurred before a player entered the league. Gordon will still be allowed to participate in training camp and Browns preseason games.
