The New York Jets' quarterback competition is still going strong, but the latest developments indicate Mark Sanchez has the upper hand. ESPN's Rich Cimini says rookie Geno Smith "hasn't blown anybody away" and Sanchez may end up winning the starting job by default. It's probably not what Jets fans want to hear, but there's still plenty of time before training camp and preseason kick off. This story isn't ending anytime soon.
NFL news roundup: Mark Sanchez could start, Trent Richardson on track to run, and more
Mark Sanchez could win the starting QB job, Trent Richardson is set to start running in two weeks, and more news you may have missed on Sunday.

Here’s some other NFL headlines from Sunday.
The Cleveland Browns expect running back Trent Richardson to start running in two weeks. The second-year back is sitting out OTAs with a leg injury that's considered "minor." If there are no setbacks, he should be ready to go when training camp starts. Richardson dealt with knee and rib injuries during his rookie year, but he still managed to put up 950 yards and 11 touchdowns.
In more Browns news, fullback Owen Marecic will have to impress his new coaching staff if he wants a roster spot this year. A fourth-round draft pick in 2011, Marecic struggled mightily as a lead blocker. He has a chance to show improvement in training camp, but his leash appears to be short.
Detroit Lions cornerback Bill Bentley is on track to win the starting job at right cornerback. The second-year player's rookie season ended after four games with a shoulder injury. Rookie Darius Slay and Ron Bartell are also in the mix to compete for the starting position. Chris Houston is the entrenched starter on the left side.
Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended two games and fined four games' pay for a codeine violation. Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Gordon's suspension already puts him in Stage Three of the NFL's substance abuse policy, meaning another failed drug test could get him banned from the league for at least a year.
The New York Jets will be inviting wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker to try out for the team. Sims-Walker last played with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2011, where he was placed on injured reserve and released shortly afterwards. He is coming to New York solely on a tryout basis and if he performs poorly at the workout, the team is unlikely to offer him a contract.
