Defensive end Jamaal Anderson has been released by the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced Wednesday. The former 2007 Top 10 pick had been set to enter the second year of a two-year deal he signed with the Bengals in 2012. Now, he'll be looking to latch on somewhere else with training camps set to begin this month.

Anderson has struggled to make an impact in the NFL since being selected No. 8 overall by the Atlanta Falcons. He never recorded more than two sacks in a season while he was in Atlanta. After four years, he went to the Indianapolis Colts where he had a minor resurgence. In 2011, he had 24 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery in 15 games.
The Bengals seemed to get a good deal when they signed Anderson for two years and $5.5 million. He appeared in just two games last season before succumbing to a torn quadriceps, however. Anderson was due to make $2.5 million this season.
The Bengals are expected to start Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson at the two defensive end spots, with Margus Hunt, drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, also potentially factoring into the rotation.
