The upcoming season is the final year in Burnett’s rookie deal with the Packers, and he’s owed $1.323 million for the season, a considerable jump from the $540,000 he made in 2012. He was the Packers’ third-round pick in the 2010 draft.
No timeline to finish the extension was disclosed.
Burnett played in all 16 games last season and has started 32 straight games for Green Bay. He finished last season with 123 tackles, two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.
Packers coach Mike McCarthy recently called Burnett “the leader back there” in reference to the Packers secondary, according to Lori Nickel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
