Jets rumors: Kellen Winslow sets 100 reception goal, Stephen Hill being monitored in camp

Here are some Jets news items that don’t involve quarterbacks. No, really.

Rob Carr

New York Jets tight end Kellen Winslow said his goal this season is to catch close to 100 passes, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. The Jets will be careful with his training camp workload to preserve his knees.

Winslow appeared in just one game last season with the New England Patriots, recording a grand total of one reception. The closest he came to 100 receptions was in 2006, when he caught 89 passes with the Cleveland Browns. It's a lofty goal and probably an unreasonable one given the Jets' quarterback situation.

In other Jets news, Mehta reports the team will closely monitor wide receiver Stephen Hill’s reps in training camp. Hill’s rookie season was hobbled by knee injuries and he was still not 100 percent in spring minicamps. The team is limiting his workload to avoid any setbacks with the knee. Hill recorded 21 catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns while missing five games last season. He struggled with drops and shoddy route running.
