The Miami Dolphins don't expect Dion Jordan to start immediately. According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins plan to use him primarily in passing situations to start, making the third round pick a situational player, at least to start the season.
Dion Jordan not expected to start for Dolphins immediately
The Dolphins plan to bring their first round pick along slowly.

Miami plans to use Jordan as a defensive end in passing situations, but would also like to use him in their base defense. Doing so would likely mean moving him to strongside linebacker, which is something the Dolphins have discussed, but have not begun working with Jordan on playing. Because of that, Jordan will likely be an end on passing downs almost exclusively, while Jared Odrick and Koa Misi play the outside linebacker spots in run situations.
As the season goes on, the Dolphins are likely to use the extremely athletic Jordan in more sets and in more places. That will mean more time at linebacker as he rounds into a more complete and well-rounded player, but that is down the road. Unless Jordan wows the coaches when he puts the pads on in training camp, he will be a situational player in Week 1.
