NFL news roundup: Ben Utecht wins grievance against Bengals, Aaron Hernandez photo pulled from Hall of Fame

Ben Utecht received a large settlement from his former team, a photo of Aaron Hernandez has been removed from the Pro Football Hall of Fame and more news from around the league.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Ben Utecht has won his grievance against the team, and will reportedly receive $925,000 as part of the settlement. Utecht was released in 2009 after being place on injured reserve with a concussion, but claims he wasn't healthy when he was let go. The Bengals withheld a portion of his salary for that season, but an arbitrator ruled that it was unfair.

Said the arbitrator:

[Utecht] had not been sufficiently tested, both in his aerobic and strength reconditioning program, nor had he been tested, both in sport specific activities which would be a more accurate means of determining whether the damage caused by the concussion had cleared.

Here’s what else has been going on around the league on Sunday.

Hall of Fame removes Hernandez photo

The Pro Football Hall of Fame removed an award-winning photograph of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez after receiving several complaints from visitors. The 2010 photo, which shows Hernandez scoring a touchdown against the Green Bay Packers, won an annual contest presented by the Hall. The move is yet another made in the league's attempt to distance itself from Hernandez, who was charged in June with the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Dennard may have violated probation

A Nebraska court will determine if Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard violated his probation when he was arrested on suspicion of DUI on Thursday. Dennard could potentially serve jail time if it is found that he violated the terms of his probation by consuming alcohol. He was placed on probation last year after punching a police officer in Lincoln, Neb.

Pugh to compete for Giants’ starting RT job

First-round pick Justin Pugh will immediately compete against David Diehl and James Brewer for the Giants' starting right tackle position, according to reports.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride stressed the importance of adding youth to the team:

We added some young blood that can come in and look like they have the skill set to be able to play and contribute down the road. There is no question, we needed an infusion of talent at that spot -– young talent that would be able to come in and eventually assume starting roles. How soon that will be remains to be seen.

Pugh was selected by the Giants with the 19th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Broncos up their offer to Clady

The Denver Broncos have increased their contract offer to left tackle Ryan Clady to $52.5 million over five years. Denver, who placed the franchise tag on Clady before the free agency period, has until Monday to ink a deal, after which it will only be able to sign him to a one-year contract. The deal would guarantee three years and $33 million to Clady, now entering his sixth year in the league.
