Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith has been released to house arrest, according to the Florida Times-Union. He will be allowed to attend work, school and church but is otherwise required to stay home and wear an ankle bracelet.

Jimmy Smith has been released from prison and is serving house arrest. He will be eligible for parole in June 2014.

Smith, 44, was jailed on Dec. 19, 2012, on charges of cocaine possession and a felon carrying a firearm. He was originally serving a six-year prison term and was scheduled to be released in 2018, but his type of crime made him qualify for an intensive supervision program. He will be eligible for parole June 2014, and once that date comes, the parole board will set terms for his release.

Smith is one of the most prolific receivers in Jaguars history, totaling over 12,000 receiving yards in his career, but he’s been plagued with drug problems in his playing career, running afoul of the NFL’s substance abuse program in 2001. The Jaguars have yet to add him to the “Pride of the Jaguars,” their version of the Ring of Honor.
