Michael Vick should be a fit in Chip Kelly’s offense

The Eagles’ quarterback situation remains unsettled, but at least one NFL analyst expects Michael Vick to win the job and play well in new coach Chip Kelly’s offense.

The leader in the Eagles' quarterback competition seemingly changed after each offseason workout and while it remains unsettled, ESPN's Ron Jaworski called Michael Vick the "most talented" quarterback on the roster and said he expects him to play well in Chip Kelly's offense.

“Here’s the positive as the Eagles transition to Kelly’s shotgun-spread attack,” Jaworski said, according to Rotoworld, “Vick was outstanding in the two-minute offense last season with a QB rating of 98. I am going to be fascinated to see Vick in Chip Kelly’s up-tempo speed offense.”

In addition to an up-tempo offense, Vick was at his best last season when making quick decisions. According to Pro Football Focus, Vick had a 91.0 passer rating when he held the ball for 2.5 seconds or less. His passer rating dropped to 66.8 when holding the ball for 2.6 second or longer. Nick Foles, who is competing with Vick for the starting job, had similar results last season. Foles had a 90.3 passer rating when spending 2.5 seconds or less in the pocket compared to 66.0 on plays 2.6 seconds or longer.

Kelly utilized a potent rushing attack with extreme tempo at Oregon, but it’s still unclear what offense the Eagles will use. While Vick appears to be a more natural fit if Kelly’s attack is similar to what he ran at Oregon, but Foles reportedly made fewer mistakes during offseason workouts. As a result, CSN Philly.com’s Geoff Mosher called quarterback the “most fluid positional battle” on the Eagles roster.
