49ers training camp: Mario Manningham, Kendall Hunter, Kyle Williams placed on PUP

With training camp only days away, the 49ers made a number of moves, placing eight players on the PUP list. Kendall Hunter, Mario Manningham, Kyle Williams and Tank Carradine are among the names included.

When the San Francisco 49ers open training camp next week, eight players listed on the roster won't be on the practice field. That's because the team has placed running back Kendall Hunter, wide receivers Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams, along with linebacker Darius Fleming on the active/PUP list, according to ESPN's Mike Sando.

Under the NFL rules, players on the active/PUP list are unable to practice until they are cleared by medical staff. Manningham and Williams are both recovering from ACL tears while Hunter is rehabbing a torn Achilles. All three players should be ready for the regular season and aren’t expected to miss much training camp time.

In addition to those moves, Sando also reports that the team put defensive linemen Tank Carradine and Quinton Dial, running back Marcus Lattimore and offensive tackle Luke Marquardt on the active/non-football injury list. The NFI list is similar to the PUP, except it's reserved for non-football injuries. Lattimore and Carradine are both recovering from knee surgeries and aren't expected to be 100 percent in their rookie years. Marquardt missed his senior year with a fractured foot.

All eight players will count against the 90 man roster in training camp. One notable name missing from these lists is receiver Michael Crabtree, who tore his Achilles in OTAs. Sando believes that he will be a candidate for Injury Reserve with a designation to play. Crabtree hopes to come back sometime late in the season.
