Tony Romo injury: Cowboys QB on ‘pitch count’

The Cowboys have Tony Romo on a “pitch count” as he continues to make his way back from surgery.

Tony Romo is finally throwing again during Dallas Cowboys training camp. He is still on a "pitch count" according to head coach Jason Garrett, however, as he continues to recover from an April micro procedure to remove a non-cancerous cyst.

Romo was forced to sit out offseason training activities and minicamp due to the procedure. About a month and a half ago, he was cleared by team doctors to begin running and throwing. Though Romo says he still feels lingering effects from the procedure and has some catching up to do on conditioning, he should be ready to start the season.

Via the Cowboys’ official site:

“It’s probably just soreness, is the thing. You’re just going to do as if you were coming back from anything, and you’re all of a sudden going to attack it competitively at 100 percent,” he said. “I’ll monitor it - I monitored it during individuals today, and I came out of here good. As long as everything keeps flowing, we’ll be fine.”

Romo’s continued progress is good news for a team that has been bit hard by the injury bug to start training camp. On Sunday, defensive end Tyrone Crawford was carted off the field less than one hour into the team’s first practice with what could be a torn Achilles’ tendon.
