Houston Texans, DeAndre Hopkins agree to terms on 4-year contract

The Texans have agreed to terms with rookie wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, just in time for the start of training camp.

USA TODAY Sports

DeAndre Hopkins and the Houston Texans have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports. The Texans selected the wideout with the No. 27 overall pick in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

With Hopkins in the fold, the Texans can turn their attention to their remaining unsigned rookies. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that second-round safety D.J. Swearinger and third-round offensive tackle Brennan Williams have yet to sign, but could fall shortly now that Hopkins has worked out a deal.

Texans training camp opened for rookies on July 21. They will be joined by veteran players on July 25 at the Texans' practice facility. Hopkins is expected to contribute immediately in a receiving corps that doesn't have much proven talent beyond supremely talented-but-aging Andre Johnson. Behind Johnson and Hopkins, DeVier Posey and Lestar Jean have a combined 12 career receptions. Posey was a rookie last season, while Jean saw playing time for the first time since entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2011.

Hopkins thrived in his senior season at Clemson, catching 82 passes for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. He was the second receiver selected in the draft, behind West Virginia’s Tavon Austin.
