New York Jets host Austin Collie, Laurent Robinson

The Jets are hosting a number of free agent wideouts in training camp.

Phil Sears-US PRESSWIRE

The New York Jets will host wide receivers Austin Collie and Laurent Robinson on Monday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Collie's visit, while Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger confirmed that Robinson would also be visiting New York. The visits highlight the team's desperate need for pass catchers.

More on the Jets: Gang Green Nation

The Jets' passing game was anemic last season, finishing third-to-last in the NFL in passing efficiency. Mark Sanchez was blamed for much of those struggles, but it didn't help that he had an unreliable receiving corps. Santonio Holmes played in just four games before being placed on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury. Stephen Hill was extremely raw, even for a rookie, and struggled through injuries of his own.

The team turned to Jeremy Kerley to take on a heavier receiving load, and while he responded with 56 receptions for 827 yards and two touchdowns, the Jets are obviously looking for more receiving help. He returns as the team's safest option at wide receiver, with Holmes still in the process of an arduous recovery and Hill still very much an unknown quantity.

Collie and Robinson would be welcome additions for their experience. In 41 regular season games from 2009-11, Collie caught 172 passes for 1,839 yards and 16 touchdowns. Robinson has had ups and downs during his six-year career, but in 2011 with the Dallas Cowboys, he had 54 receptions for 858 yards and 11 scores.
