Jets rumors: Braylon Edwards expected to sign

The Jets brought back Edwards at the end of last season, and it appears they will bring him back again to start training camp.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

Veteran receiver Braylon Edwards has had two stints with the New York Jets in his career, and it appears that he is ready to begin his third. Manish Mehta reported on Wednesday that Edwards "is taking a physical for the Jets today" and that "a reunion is forthcoming."

Edwards signed with the Seattle Seahawks last season, but with Sidney Rice staying healthy and Golden Tate emerging as a threat opposite of Rice, the team released Edwards in the middle of the year after he only made eight catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. He signed with the Jets and made three starts at the end of the year, catching 10 passes for 125 yards.

Edwards had previously played for the Jets in 2009 and 2010, posting a career-high 17.1 yards per catch in 2010 with 904 yards and seven touchdowns. Over the last two seasons with the 49ers, Seahawks and Jets, Edward has just 380 yards and 11.5 yards per catch.

The Jets currently have veteran receiver Santonio Holmes on the preseason physically unable to perform list, leaving little depth behind Jeremy Kerley and Stephen Hill. It looks like Edwards will be joining them shortly.
