Adam Carriker injury: Redskins DE to have surgery on torn quadriceps

Carriker will undergo surgery for the third time on his right leg since tearing his quadriceps tendon during Week 2 of the 2012 season.

Geoff Burke-US PRESSWIRE

Adam Carriker will be undergoing surgery yet again to help repair the torn quadriceps tendon he suffered during Week 2 of the 2012 season, according to Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington. That will mark the third time the Washington Redskins' defensive end will have undergone surgery on his right leg since the injury, and he will likely be named to the team's physically unable to perform list sometime Wednesday.

Carriker’s timetable for return is still unknown. If he remains on the PUP list to open the regular season, he will be forced to miss the Redskins’ first six regular-season games.

Carriker was hoping to bounce back after appearing in just two games last season, and coaches had hoped he would compete with Jarvis Jenkins for playing time at left end. With Carriker out for the time being, 2006's sixth-round pick Kedric Golston could see more time in the Redskins' rotation along the defensive line.

Carriker’s best season came in 2011, when he notched 34 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 16 games played. Until 2012, he had missed just one game in four seasons in the NFL.
